MCC Begins Planning for a New Golf Course Irrigation System
After 44 years of service, MCC’s original irrigation system is showing its age. Leaks, equipment failures, rising maintenance costs and outdated technology have contributed to water waste, higher EBMUD costs and concerns about maintaining the golf course in optimal condition.

Why is this needed?
A modern irrigation system could improve water efficiency, reduce operating and maintenance costs, and help protect MCC’s 18-hole golf course. Recognizing that any replacement would be a significant project involving cost, financing, timing and operations, the MCC Board has created the Ad Hoc Golf Course Irrigation and Drainage Project Committee (GCDIP). The Committee will evaluate these issues and provide recommendations to the Board. It will also help keep the membership informed as the process moves forward.

August 2026 Update
At its July 28, 2026 meeting, the Board authorized the GCDIP to retain a qualified consultant to work with the Committee and staff to develop a detailed scope of work for a potential drainage and irrigation project, including estimated costs, financing options and a proposed timeline.

The consultant’s report is expected to be presented to the Board at its November 17 meeting. No decision to proceed with the project will be made until the Board has reviewed the consultant’s recommendations.
